The advantages of including indoor plants in your design

There are certainly certain design elements that you would expect to find in a modern workplace. Among them are open spaces, visual merchandising, lighting and – not least – indoor plants. The truth is that theBiophilic Designput an end to closed spaces, without any vegetation in sight. Currently, there are countless organizations that choose to incorporate indoor plants into their design, among them are Amazon or theApple campus in Silicon Valley, with around 9,000 indoor and outdoor plants.

Now, thepharmaciesand the clinicsare no exception to the rule. Increasingly, green contributes significantly to increasing the satisfaction of healthcare professionals and users. It has already been scientifically proven that indoor plants help increase concentration levels, improving air quality. In fact, biophilic design is based – precisely – on the principle that natural environments evoke a different response in people, offering a feeling of serenity, calm and relaxation. Therefore, when introduced into indoor environments, these natural elements contribute to reducing stress and maintaining patients' mental health.

Additionally,in an extensive review of publications, Kaitlyn Gillis and Birgitta Gatersleben, from the University of Sussex, in the United Kingdom, linked indoor plants to increased pain tolerance. Therefore, people spend more time in spaces decorated with indoor plants, as these natural elements are capable of exciting and/or motivating them.
